Post-Tensioned Slab Strengthening Using Carbon Fiber Reinforcement | Vero Beach, FL

Carbon fiber reinforcement installed on a post-tensioned concrete slab during structural strengthening work at a multi-story residential building construction site.

This project involved the repair and strengthening of a post-tensioned concrete slab at a large commercial structure in Vero Beach, Florida. Construction errors resulted in excessive flexural stress at slab supports, and misaligned tendons created a punching shear concern that compromised the slab’s structural integrity. Traditional repair options such as drop panels or partial demolition would have increased cost and downtime, so a more efficient strengthening method was required.

Structural Reinforcement Solutions (SRS) developed a comprehensive CFRP repair plan using SRS-600 UNI-Directional Carbon Fiber for primary flexural strengthening and SRS-660 BI-Directional Carbon Fiber in select areas requiring shear reinforcement. The externally bonded CFRP system provided a durable, high-performance repair that restored load-bearing capacity while avoiding major disruption to the facility.

By extending CFRP strips beyond rebar locations and optimizing anchorage, the installation improved both flexural and shear resistance. The completed CFRP reinforcement delivered long-term performance, cost savings, and improved structural stability, making it an effective solution for post-tensioned slab rehabilitation.
