Carbon Fiber Bowed Wall Stabilization – Toms River, New Jersey

Carbon fiber straps installed on a bowed CMU basement wall for structural stabilization during a residential foundation repair in Toms River, NJ.

In residential bowed wall cases, carbon fiber reinforcement provides homeowners with a cost-effective solution to stop further inward wall movement and prevent structural failure. For this project in Toms River, New Jersey, a CMU basement wall had begun to bow inward due to hydrostatic pressure and expansive soils.

Hydroscience prepared the wall thoroughly by grinding the surface, repairing deteriorated mortar joints, and following manufacturer prep requirements to ensure full carbon fiber engagement. Proper prep work is critical; if the wall is not restored and the joints are not repaired correctly, the straps cannot achieve their full tensile strength and long-term failure becomes more likely.

Once the joints were re-tucked and the wall was fully prepped, Hydroscience installed SRS carbon fiber straps across the height of the wall to lock it in place and prevent future bowing. Because the straps reinforce the entire wall height, they provide continuous resistance, unlike partial-height repair methods that can still allow failures above or below stiffened areas.

The completed installation provided the homeowner with a structurally sound foundation ready for a pending real estate transaction. The carbon fiber system offers a permanent stabilization solution that is warranted for the life of the structure.
