National Guard Army Corps of Engineers – Double T Parking Garage Strengthening with Carbon Fiber

District of Columbia National Guard Joint Force Headquarters building featured in the SRS case study on CFRP strengthening of double T parking garage beams.

Select areas of the inverted T-beams within the East and West Garages at the Joint Force Headquarters in Arlington, VA were exhibiting cracking and deterioration. The Army Corps of Engineers designed a repair plan using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) to restore shear capacity and prolong the service life of the structure.
Bright Construction Group executed the repairs and partnered with Structural Reinforcement Solutions to supply SRS-600UNI CFRP for the strengthening. U-wraps were installed at the end spans of multiple beams where cracking was present. The CFRP system offered a non-invasive installation, improved load distribution, and restored structural integrity with minimal disruption to garage operations.
