Elevated Bike Path Column Reinforcement | CFRP Strengthening Solution

This case study examines the remediation of newly constructed 30" concrete columns supporting an elevated bike path in St. Louis. After spalling developed at the column tops, the SRS team determined that the spiral reinforcement did not extend far enough to provide proper confinement. The owner required a fast, economical reinforcement method that avoided major redesign or demolition.
SRS provided a stamped repair design calling for the top 4 feet of each column to be wrapped with SRS-600UNI carbon fiber. Once approved, SRS coordinated closely with field crews to ensure proper surface prep, epoxy application, and fiber installation. The CFRP reinforcement restored structural performance at the column tops and allowed the project to proceed without costly delays or structural modifications.
