Carbon Fiber Block Wall Reinforcement – Southern California

Industrial CMU block wall reinforced with carbon fiber U-wrap and flexural strengthening at a Southern California facility.

An industrial chemical plant in Southern California faced structural issues in its central boiler building. The CMU block wall exhibited cracking, deteriorated areas, and opened mortar joints—raising concerns about the long-term stability of the structure. Significant cracking was also discovered above an overhead door opening, prompting the facility to seek a targeted repair solution.

Structural Reinforcement Solutions (SRS) designed a carbon fiber repair system to restore strength to the wall and reinforce the area above the door opening. SRS-600UNI CFRP was applied as U-wraps and flexural reinforcement, while additional confinement was achieved using SRS-660BI carbon fiber for the deteriorated wall section. Before installation, all cracks, damaged mortar joints, and deteriorated surfaces were repaired to ensure proper bonding.

Once repairs were complete, the CFRP systems were installed and coated with protective finishes. The result was a fully reinforced CMU block wall capable of supporting operational demands, eliminating previous concerns about cracking and structural deterioration.
