California’s Largest Carbon Fiber Retaining Wall Repair Project | CFRP Strengthening Solution

Carbon fiber reinforced retaining wall repair in Palm Springs, CA, showing CFRP vertical and horizontal strengthening on a failing concrete wall.

This project showcases the rehabilitation of a 650-foot retaining wall supporting luxury hillside homes in Palm Springs, CA. The wall experienced significant structural distress—including cracking, tilting, and soil-pressure-induced instability—due to tree root intrusion, added load from pools and irrigation systems, and seismic movement. SRS engineered a hybrid repair strategy combining carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and structural steel tiebacks. Vertical and horizontal CFRP reinforcement was applied to restore flexural strength, distribute loads, and stabilize sections where tiebacks could not be installed. With optimized surface preparation and UV-resistant finishing, the strengthened wall achieved long-term durability, improved load distribution, and restored structural integrity without requiring major excavation or reconstruction.
